Community Clean ups

Description

Our goal for the 2019 Summer Initiative will be to continue the hard work from last year and target several major streets within the community to be cleaned. We will be working in tandem with leaders and volunteers who all share the same vision and understanding that a clean community, is the start to a promising future.

We believe that where you live, should be a place in which you take pride in, and truly love and appreciate. A beautiful neighborhood breeds beautiful people, and a welcoming environment produces a welcoming atmosphere. This is the defining factor in which makes people fall love with where they live, so we aim to beautify every place in which the U.I.O.W Coalition for a Greater Western New York impacts, or adopts.

It is our goal to inspire those around us to continue to take up the mantel of caring where they live. It only takes but a small effort from a select few, to build and create an impact that can be greater than the efforts of what we could have done individually.

Financial Literacy

Description

Financial literacy is the education and understanding of many different financial areas. These are the skills necessary to become well equipped and informed individuals within life. Some of these topics are centered around managing ones’ personal finance, money and wise investment strategies. This topic focuses on the ability to manage their personal finances in relation to making wise choices with the money they have.

The UIOW strives to create a sense of awareness on the impending danger of being a constant consumer, and not planning and preparing their personal wealth for future use. Learning these skills in an efficient manner and including the knowledge of making appropriate decisions about personal finance at a young age is essential to our model and institution. We believe learning things such as investing, insurance, real estate, paying for college, budgeting, retirement and tax planning we be the greatest foundation a young adult can build for themselves.

It has been stated by the greats of times past that we must understand “Never stop and forget that collectively — that means all of us together — collectively we are richer than all the nations in the world, with the exception of nine. Did you ever think about that? After you leave the United States, Soviet Russia, Great Britain, West Germany, France, and I could name the others, the American Negro collectively is richer than most nations of the world. We have an annual income of more than thirty billion dollars a year, which is more than all of the exports of the United States, and more than the national budget of Canada. Did you know that? That’s power right there, if we know how to pool it.” — Martin Luther King April 3rd 1968

Throughout the summer program we will be encouraging our youth to make wise decision, while also pairing them with a skilled knowledgeable financial professional. It is our goal to not only provide our students with the ability to build their communities, but also build their financial portfolios and future as well.

Community Revitalization

Description

The UIOW Coalition prides itself on building communities and establishing relationships. We employ unique and practical ways to engage community residents, by providing them the essential tools needed to revitalize under-served communities.

When it comes down to neighborhoods, it is our belief that we are the stewards of the places in which we live. Revitalization must and should come form within, and not be sought from outside. We believe in equipping residents and community members with the essential knowledge that is needed to begin to build their own place in which they can be proud of.

The UIOW strives to be the definition of Community revitalization by being a great steward over the place in which we live. It only takes one person to care, to pick up that one piece of trash, and to organize their neighbors to be the best they can be. Through the actions of one, we can bring the change to many.

The UIOW encourages personal and authentic relationships with those around we call neighbors. Community Revitalization goes beyond building a beautiful community form the outside. It ties into the fabrics that create a strong network of individuals, it builds on the real relationships between neighbors, so that the most important part of community revitalization can begin. This summer we will continue to build relationships, clean our neighborhoods, empower our youth, and transform our future.

Community Engagement

Description

It is always a pleasure to serve those who need help the most. Our goal every year is to select one senior from our community, and begin to be a blessing to them in any way they need. Whether that is cleaning out a garage, or mowing their lawns through the summer, or painting a porch. Our team of young men appreciate the community, so we give back whenever and where ever we can.

It is our goal to establish directs relationship with skilled and knowledgeable Community Based Organizations. We aim to partner with such Organizations to begin to build the framework for community relations and involvement.

We agree to allow community members within the specified neighborhoods full and complete access to all opportunities we provide! We believe that “If you give a man a fish, he will eat for that day, but if you teach that man to fish, he will eat for a lifetime.”

Our Concept is no different when it comes to affordable, quality homes and neighborhoods. “If we simply place beautiful homes within neighborhoods, it will last for that moment. If we are allowed to teach HOW to build quality homes, we can build for a lifetime”

Our goal is to Equip our Community Based Organizations with resources to allocate Community Champions to work hand in hand with the youth to help foster the completion of the program.

“Community Education is key, but Community Cooperation is imperative. ” ~ Deyron Tabb
